About the strategic context of this outcome

The Auckland Plan 2050

The Auckland Plan Māori Identity and Wellbeing outcome identifies that:

"A thriving Māori identity is Auckland’s point of difference in the world – it advances prosperity for Māori and benefits all Aucklanders."

Mana Whenua Kaitiaki Forum

This outcome is based on aspirations and initiatives identified by the Mana Whenua Kaitiaki Forum to encourage an authentic and thriving Māori identity and culture within this area. 

Transformational move 1: Māori outcomes provides further detail on how the outcome intent could be delivered.

The forum has five key points of interest within this area. Future development should be conscious of the mana whenua aspirations and expectations within these focus areas:

  • culture and identity
  • economic development
  • environment
  • wellbeing
  • leadership and influence.

The Auckland Design Manual - Te Aranga Principles

The Te Aranga Māori Design Principles are used, understood and supported by Auckland Council whānau, mana whenua and the Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland design industry.

The principles provide a starting point for all development with mana whenua involvement. It delivers design that celebrates the unique mana whenua culture of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.
