Access for Everyone (A4E)

Access for Everyone (A4E) is an idea to create more space in the city centre. It aims to provide healthier, safer and more equitable transport and public space in the city centre.

Access for Everyone (A4E) is a coordinated response that manages Auckland's city centre transport needs by:

  • limiting motorised through-traffic
  • prioritising access to city centre destinations
  • creating new spaces
  • improving access for servicing, freight and delivery
  • favouring public transport, walking and cycling.

A4E integrates long term planning, city management and investment and provides an opportunity to transform how people and freight move in the city centre. By enabling a decisive mode shift away from private vehicles, it aims to make better use of finite city centre space and improve the quality of the environment.

Auckland Transport (AT) and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) are undertaking investigations into the specific options and actions necessary to implement A4E.
